A mundane lack of space

22
Jul

The (mostly) blank page

A start — listening to the colors I’m drawn to.

Layers and layers of paint and paper bits.

Things just kept needing to be put on the page.

She showed up unannounced.

More more more, more layers, more colors, taking up all the space on the page.

Final production in the light of day.

Final page in the light of day.

This is in response to a prompt of “Space” with Esther Emery and #wholemama (click here for all the details). I didn’t have many words but I did have paint. That worked best for me last night.

Do you have space in your life? Do you wish you had more? How can we help one another have the space we need to process or vent or be silent as best suits our souls?

I love the visual, artistic take on “space”, especially because it shows the stages, transitions, and how we fill our space differently at different times.

Thank you, Nathana! Right now I find that many things are easier to “articulate” with paint instead of words. Hoping that will change soon, but accepting it as the way things need to be for now.

It’s very beautiful. I am glad you showed the different layers and described your process. I love that “She showed up unannounced” because life has good surprises like that. Your art speaks, even without words, and it’s such a gift.

Thank you, Jamie. I’m trying to resist feeling stymied and allowing more words to return when they will.

Tanya, what a treat to take us on your journey of creating this page! It was cool to see how it developed as you progressed. I love your final page with all the colors and textures and shapes and your unexpected visitor. It’s great how that happens sometimes when we just start painting using whatever calls to us. Thanks so much for sharing your art with us!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by! I have to say, in a season of difficulty, messing about with paints has been an invaluable outlet for me. I think it works for everybody, but sometimes people are nervous to try it. All I can say is go for it! No matter what the “end product” looks like, the process is the most important part.
